Raipur: Chhattisgarh Votes Contest, a social media campaign initiated by state Chief Electoral Officer, is getting a great response from citizens across the state. People from the state are participating enthusiastically in the competition by posting pictures of their works on different competition categories on social media.
Aiming to spread awareness about election and voting process among the citizens, state chief electoral officer initiated this campaign under its programme Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) on social media in August.
Similarly, a page has also been created on Facebook with a goal to connect much -more people on the social media. Through this page, they will know about all the activities of the Election Commission. This will not only increase participation of users but also create a transparent system between the government and the citizen, an official from the department said.
The competition has been divided into three categories—painting and sketch, photography and slogan writing. Seven themes namely My Vote – My Right, Why Voting is important, No Voters to be left behind, Vote to strengthen democracy, Accessible Elections, Voter Awareness, and Ethical Voting have been fixed for each category.
Students and youth from different districts of the state are participating enthusiastically in the competition by making painting and sketches, writing slogans and posting them on social media with #ChhattisgarhVotes, says the source.
Winners of the competition will be chosen based on the number of likes they get on their post and will be announced after Chhattisgarh State Assembly Election process is concluded. Cash prizes from Rs500 to Rs 50000 will be given to the winners. Besides all winners will get a participation certificate. The participants can send their entries till October 14.
Similarly, as per posts circulated by the department on social media, different events are being conducted under the SVEEP program to spread electoral awareness among the youth across the state.
Demonstration of the working of Electronic Voter Machine (EVM) and Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail System (VVPAT) is being displayed by the departmental officers at Gram Panchayat level and also to the college students across the state.
Recently school children from Mungeli and Bilaspur district participated in the voter awareness campaign by forming a human chain. Students from a high school in Guchhapali of Mahasamund district participated in an awareness rally where they aware people about the electoral process using their handmade posters and charts.
