Raipur: Air services between Raipur to Jagdalpur launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the month of June this year has been discontinued on Wednesday.
An official spokesman from Raipur Airport Authority informed that in an agreement done between Airport Authority of India and Air Odisha, a clause stated that the operator will operate at least 70% of the flight scheduled within a span of three or six months which Air Odisha failed to fulfil. Due to which the Airport Authority of India canceled the agreement with Air Odisha and the air services were discontinued.
He said that only 83 flights out of 153 were arrived and departed from Raipur to Jagdalpur airport during the last five months. Due to the non-fulfilment of agreement terms by Air Odisha, the Airport Authority of India canceled the agreement with Air Odisha.
Speaking about the future plans for Raipur to Jagdalpur air services, the official said that similar bidding process will be done in future and whichever airlines are interested to provide air services will be given a chance to place their bid. After which all the mandatory procedures will be done, and air services may start again.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated flight operations on the Jagdalpur-Raipur-Vizag route under regional air connectivity—Regional Connectivity Scheme—Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN-RCS) on June 14 this year through a live video conferencing from Bhilai district.
