Retired IAS joins congress

Raipur: After a serving IAS quit as collector to join the ruling BJP, in Chhattisgarh, a former additional chief secretary Serjius Minj has joined the opposition Congress ahead of the coming assembly elections.
Hailing from a tribal community of Jashpur region, Minj was a 1978 batch IAS officer who later became state’s chief information commissioner.
Minj got the primary membership of the Congress in the presence of AICC general secretary P L Punia, state congress president Bhupesh baghel, leader of the opposition in the assembly T S Singhdeo, and other party leaders at the state Congress headquarters on Sunday.
Minj, who hails from tribal Jashpur region, had earlier served in undivided Madhya Pradesh and later after formation of Chhattisgarh. He was the first commissioner of Raipur Division -as a capital of new-born state Chhattisgarh. He held key positions in the Forest, Agriculture, Tribal development, Water Resources, Panchayat and Rural Development Department in Chhattisgarh.
Minj said that “I have joined the Congress and it’s for the party to decide as to what responsibility the party want to entrust to me. My idea is to work for the uplift of tribals”. “For the last many decades, Congress party has been in the forefront of making efforts for the development and progress. Being closely associated and working with Congress governments during my career, I am convinced that Congress party can work effectively for the betterment of people of all sections of the society, including the downtrodden and the poor.
Earlier on Saturday, another retired IAS RPS Tyagi, who was collector in a couple of districts, had also joined the Congress.
